Doom Eternal: Fast Paced Action and Glory Kills

“Doom Eternal” is a first-person shooter video game developed by ID Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main instalment in the Doom series and the direct sequel to the 2016 game “Doom.” “Doom Eternal” was released on March 20, 2020, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Stadia. It later became available for the Nintendo Switch.

The game continues the story of the Doom Slayer, who battles demonic forces from Hell to save Earth. “Doom Eternal” introduces new gameplay mechanics, such as a grappling hook known as the “Meat Hook” on the Super Shotgun, allowing players to quickly close the gap between themselves and enemies. The game also features a variety of new weapons, including the Crucible Blade and the Ballista.

Combat and Movement:

  • Aggressive Gameplay: The game’s combat system emphasizes constant movement and aggression. Standing still is not an option, and players must make use of the environment to stay one step ahead of the relentless demonic forces.
  • Glory Kills and Chainsaw: Glory Kills, which involve executing weakened enemies in a gruesome manner, not only provide health but also contribute to the game’s fast-paced flow. Chainsaw kills, on the other hand, are a vital resource for replenishing ammunition during intense battles.

New Weapons:

  • Crucible Blade: The Crucible Blade is a rare and potent weapon that can eliminate most enemies with a single strike. Its limited use adds a tactical element to its usage, encouraging players to save it for tougher encounters.
  • Ballista: The Ballista is a versatile weapon that fires powerful energy bolts, making it effective for both precision shots on single targets and dealing damage to groups of enemies.

Platforming and Exploration:

  • Environmental Puzzles: The inclusion of platforming elements adds variety to the gameplay. Players navigate through intricate environments, solving environmental puzzles and using their agility to reach hidden areas.
  • Secrets and Collectibles: Levels are designed with a focus on exploration, rewarding players for uncovering hidden secrets, collectables, and upgrades. This not only adds replay value but also contributes to the overall sense of accomplishment.

Enemies and Boss Fights:

  • Diverse Enemy Types: “Doom Eternal” introduces new demonic enemies with unique abilities and attack patterns. Players must adapt their strategies, switching weapons and exploiting weaknesses to effectively dispatch each foe.
  • Epic Boss Encounters: The game features memorable and challenging boss fights, pitting players against massive demons that require careful observation of attack patterns and effective use of the Slayer’s arsenal.

Story and Lore:

  • Environmental Storytelling: Rather than relying heavily on cutscenes, the game employs environmental storytelling. Players can piece together the narrative through the details found in the game world, adding a layer of depth to the overall experience.
  • Codex Entries: Collectible codex entries provide additional lore, expanding on the rich history of the Doom universe and shedding light on the motivations of the characters.

Visuals and Soundtrack:

  • Impressive Graphics: “Doom Eternal” features stunning visuals, with detailed environments and dynamic lighting that contribute to the game’s dark and foreboding atmosphere.
  • Mick Gordon’s Soundtrack: The soundtrack, composed by Mick Gordon, is a driving force behind the game’s energy. It blends heavy metal with electronic elements, perfectly complementing the intensity of the gameplay.

Multiplayer and Battlemode:

  • Battlemode: In this asymmetrical multiplayer mode, one player controls the Doom Slayer while two others take on the roles of demons. It adds a strategic layer to the multiplayer experience, requiring coordination and adaptability from both sides.
