Upon landing, the teenagers realize Earth is very much different from what they were made to understand. The planet is in good shape and conducive to repopulation. They find remnants of the old civilization in various places, including a military bunker now inhabited by a hostile community of unexpected survivors; there is also a primitive society known as the Grounders. All three groups inevitably engage in a prolonged bloody conflict. Some resort to cannibalism for survival, while others die horrible deaths from nuclear radiation. The remaining few shall soldier on against many deadly adversaries from mind-controlling AI to spacefaring immortals.

• The Wilds

A big aspect of “The 100” is how it depicts a group of teenagers scouring an unfriendly environment for sustenance. As the group comprises teenagers of different skills and backgrounds, there is bound to be some bickering and arguing. In those regards, The Wilds is eerily similar to The 100. Also, events in both series really kick off after a massive accident.

• Revolution

If you enjoy teenage romance and family drama set against the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic world, Revolution makes for an excellent alternative. It is a show about kids who are left in the wilderness and forced to survive without the convenience of 21st-century technology.

• Altered Carbon

Events in Altered Carbon are set in the distant future where humans have developed a technology to live forever by keeping their consciousness as digital files. Remember the last few seasons of The 100 also focus on the same issue.

• Travelers

Just about everything you get from The 100 is showcased with brilliance in Travelers. Imagine a group of survivors facing apocalypses and dealing with artificial intelligence. Travelers even have the same idea of humans transporting their consciousness to other people’s bodies.

• Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the series features a team of qualified people taking on various challenges to prevent an apocalypse every season. The 100 applies the same principle, but Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D strikes with more subtle images of violence and deaths.

• The Society

In The 100, they leave some teenagers to their own devices in a new dangerous environment but then the adults arrive and help build a new civilization. The Society teases a similar subject with the total absence of the adults. You find some familiar character tropes as well for example the do-gooder, the devil-may-care, and the princess in the shows.

• Battlestar Galactica

Showrunner Jason Rotenberg drew inspiration from Battlestar Galactica when developing The 100. They have their dissimilarities in many respects, but they revolve around the same topics of moral crises and action storylines in a post-apocalyptic situation on a journey to save what’s left of humanity.

• The Originals

Let us say you like The 100 not because of the spaceships or the nuclear apocalypse, but the power struggle among the characters instead. An excellent alternative to the show in such a case would be The Originals, also aired on The CW. It tells the story of a vampire family making a comeback to reclaim their status of power in the supernatural world.

• The Last of Us

While technically a zombie series, The Last of Us has quite a few similarities to The 100. For example, the lead character here is a teenage girl who tries to survive the post-apocalyptic world. Surviving is the main point; the nature of the apocalypse does matter, but more importantly, it digs deeper into the burdens of being left behind.

• Terra Nova

Ceaseless overdevelopment and pollution have finally rendered the Earth inhabitable. Humans take time travel for a chance to start over. Terra Nova has a different premise from The 100, but they intriguingly step into the same idea of restoring the Earth to its former glory.

• The Leftovers

An explainable phenomenon leads to another strange incident known as “Sudden Departure” in which 140 million people disappear from the face of the Earth. Events in “The Leftovers” take place three years after the incident. Families become separated and cults emerge, not unlike the early plotlines of The 100.

• Lost

Everybody knows how it goes. A commercial plane crashes onto an island after which the surviving passengers bump into all kinds of mysteries filled with supernatural beings, horrors, and unworldly phenomena. And of course, they have to survive in the wilderness and are forced to expect the unexpected.

• Defiance

All the different groups depicted in The 100 have their own purposes and plans to survive. Conflicts between the groups often lead to another potential apocalypse where everyone might instead die. Similar issues are depicted in Defiance, although the conflicts in the show are mainly between aliens and humans.

• Firefly

The 100 teenagers sent to Earth are all actual criminals from a detention facility on a space station. The group of outlaws must find ways in a new world together despite their differences. It is a familiar setup you will also encounter on Firefly.

• Humans

Advanced artificial intelligence and robotics bring about the development of humanoids called synths. Initially considered an achievement, the synths will alter the backbones of society in ways no one has ever imagined before. The premise should remind you of the City of Light arc in The 100.

• Lost in Space

Space travel is the only way to escape an impending doomsday – that alone bears a resemblance to the last episode of Season 4 of The 100. What follows is a talk of a new life in a distant place. Lost in Space depicts the journey of a family to survive an apocalypse on Earth and find a new home. However, the real adventure begins when they actually discover an inhabitable planet.

• 3%

Those who live inland are eager to join the wealthy and powerful society living in the offshore area. However, the rule says that only 3% of inlanders will get the once-in-a-lifetime chance. Before watching the show, be prepared to see a vivid display of utter brutality and violence.

• Yellowjackets

The 100 series delivers a spectacle of how a group of teenagers carry the burden of responsibility to rebuild society and repopulate the Earth. Yellowjackets asks the same question but at a much smaller scale as it depicts a group of high school soccer players when stranded in the middle of nowhere amidst a plane crash.

• Between

In a similar tone, “Between” puts young people at the forefront of a community in the aftermath of a disaster. Events are confined within a small town, but it does not lessen the intensity of the struggle and the scale of challenges those teenagers must overcome.

• The Expanse

If you find the space-exploration part of The 100 more exciting than the Earth-based storyline, The Expanse might be the show you really want to watch. It is a sci-fi drama set in a far-flung future where humanity has colonized outer space.

• Nancy Drew

A group of young adults filled with individuals of troublesome history must work together to solve a murder case and protect everyone else from evil spirits. Added to slowly growing romance, family secrets, and interpersonal conflicts, Nancy Drew is like The 100 from an alternate universe.

We think The 100 remains a unique (although not groundbreaking) and expansive series that can hold its own despite the myriads of similar shows. There wouldn’t be two shows that are exactly similar to each other, and The 100’s ambitious exploration of themes from love and family to cannibalism and space colonization makes the show a memorable one among all others not only in the sci-fi genre but home entertainment in general.

Novel Series

The 100 TV series is loosely based on a novel series of the same name by Kass Morgan. Both have the same post-apocalyptic premise in which Earth is believed to be uninhabitable due to a nuclear disaster a century ago. In the disaster’s aftermath, humans have been living on a space station known as The Ark. Fast forward to several generations, resources grow scarce.

Life is harsh on The Ark. Many crimes are punishable by death, partly as an excuse to reduce the population and lower oxygen consumption. One hundred delinquents are sent to Earth for the same reason, and as lab rats to see whether the home planet has returned to its normal state. Since those teenagers are space-born, they must adapt to new environments quickly, deal with tough challenges, and face unlikely enemies. There are four volumes in The 100-book series:

The 100 (2013)

Despite some differences in minor details, the first book does an excellent job of setting the story’s premise. Earth is uninhabitable, forcing the remnants of the human population to colonize a space station. People are waiting for the planet to heal itself before they can go back home. The Ark is ruled by an authoritarian council whose main purpose is to preserve resources. Convicted adults are executed, and delinquents are held in confinement before facing trial at 18. Much of the story in the first book focuses on four major characters: Wells, Bellamy, Glass, and Clarke. There are 96 others to be sent to Earth as punishment, but Glass escapes before the launch and is reunited with his privileged family.

Once the teenagers are on the planet, they discover everything looks to be fine. It is not as dangerous as they thought it would be. The book features lengthy flashbacks to give the characters some workable backgrounds, but it makes the action feel flat. In fact, the post-apocalyptic adventure abruptly turns into a pretty basic teen drama.

The 100: Day 21 (2014)

Similar to the previous volume, Day 21 delivers the narration from multiple points of view with some more flashbacks. Clarke, Bellamy, and Wells are struggling in their love triangle, while Glass updates the other delinquents on the situation back on The Ark. It turns out the space station is in dire circumstances; oxygen is running dangerously low and there are just not enough dropships to send everyone to Earth.

Down on Earth, the teenagers encounter and capture a girl from the Earthborn people (known as Grounders in the TV series). Once again, the book portrays the situation not as an opportunity to know more about the Earthborn, but as a chance to escalate the teen drama. That said, Day 21 is paced faster than The 100 to prepare readers for the next installment.

The 100: Homecoming (2015)

Many pages in the third volume retell the events from the previous two books. There are plenty of quick recaps where any new reader can pick up Homecoming and easily follow the series with ease. Reminders are helpful for sure, but they’re a little overdone here, which renders the actual story short.

A major element in Homecoming is (once again) relationship drama. Every pairing goes through the same plot: one of them is injured and the other has to come to the rescue. There is also a refreshing mystery surrounding Clarke’s parents, but the excitement is resolved within the next few pages. It is enjoyable if you like a quick read with plenty of happy endings.

The 100: Rebellion (2016)

The Ark can no longer sustain life, but not before a small group of characters escape. Down on Earth, the survivors team up with the 100 delinquents. Now the two groups merge into one and form an alliance with the Earthborn people. There is a minor problem with some sort of cult, but the narration puts an end to it almost immediately, which makes all the cult-related challenges seem exaggerated, to begin with.

Rebellion is arguably the most relaxing (boring?) volume in an already relaxing novel series. Nothing consequential happens here, except for the deaths of some minor characters.

TV Series

Before the first book was even published, a screen adaptation had already been a done deal. Filming for the first season began in late 2013. Although the major premise in the adaption is basically the same as depicted in the books, the show takes much liberty in characterizations and plotlines. Throughout the show’s 7-season run, major and minor characters are involved in a sequence of complex conflicts with an in-depth probe into the biggest theme of all: moral ambiguity.

Clarke Griffin, who comes out as a leader of the 100, often must decide whether the life of one individual is worth more than the life of another for the sake of survival. She also has to navigate the seemingly impossible maze of interpersonal dramas (which rarely have to be about romance), while trying to always be on the side of the greater good. The TV series delivers a good balance between light and dark. It is a show that puts necessary evils to the challenge of idealism in the post-apocalyptic survival of humanity.

We think Kass Morgan’s “The 100” novel series is too generic for fans of sci-fi and post-apocalyptic themes. The entire four volumes feel like a quick read because every conflict that arises from the narration also ends in haste. Not that the books are bad; the novel series can be enjoyable, but only if you like a “relaxing” story with an ending where heroes live happily ever after.

As for the TV show, it is a good thing that the creators use the books as “loose inspirations” by taking only the premise and characters. The first book applies to the show, and the other three are set aside as far away as possible. With The 100, such a decision works well in the show’s favor. Without making itself a strict adaptation of the novel series, the show’s writers have the freedom to develop the characters through dilemmas, sacrifices, love, and death. Admittedly, there are some heavily criticized episodes, and yet they never take away the excitement, adventure, and action from the story. 

The TV series has its own devoted fans, and so do the novels. Both use the same premise and some major characters, but that is where the similarity ends. Because of the big differences in pacing, characters’ development arcs, interpersonal relationships/conflicts, and endings, fans of the TV series probably will not enjoy the novels, and vice versa.

Finn Collins, portrayed by Thomas McDonnel, is part of the original 100 delinquents arrested for an illegal spacewalk while on The Ark. Finn and the other 99 teenagers are sent to Earth as both punishment and an experiment to see whether the planet has once again become inhabitable after a nuclear apocalypse nearly a century ago.

Series Appearances

McDonnel’s time in the series is short, lasting only a season and a half, or 23 episodes; he appears as a hallucination in a later episode and part of a flashback in another. A simple chronicle of Finn’s short yet memorable journey in The 100 is as follows.

S1 E1 – Pilot

Viewers feel familiar with Finn from The 100 simply because he is there from the very beginning. Once the Dropship lands on Earth, he volunteers to recon the Mount Weather area with Clarke Griffin. Everyone seems positively surprised with how the planet looks, but soon they discover there are enemies lurking around. Jasper takes a spear in his chest. Finn, Clarke and the others quickly take cover.

S1 E2 – Earth Skills

Finn, Clarke, Bellamy, Murphy, and Wells are searching for Jasper, who is tied to a tree. Finn and Murphy set Jasper free. Everyone returns to camp and enjoys a meal together. They have no idea that a primitive aggressive unfriendly group of people known as Grounders are nearby.

S1 E3 – Earth Kills

Jasper is still injured; Finn, Clarke, and Wells are on their way to find medicine to treat his wound. A toxic fog appears out of nowhere, forcing them to hide inside a buried vehicle. Finn finds some whiskey and takes a sip. They stay there overnight and return to camp the next day with the seaweed treatment for Jasper.

S1 E4 – Murphy’s Law

Somebody has just murdered Wells. It looks like everyone believes Murphy is the murderer. Finn bears witness to a group of delinquents physically assaulting Murphy. When a young girl named Charlotte admits to killing Wells, she is taken by Finn and Clarke to safety. The three of them hide in a buried house. Murphy and his followers are hunting down Charlotte and corner her on top of a cliff. The little girl ends up committing suicide. Bellamy banishes Murphy from the camp. Before returning to the Dropship, Finn gives his knife to Murphy to help him survive the wild. Finn and Clarke come back to the buried house and have sex.

S1 E5 – Twilight’s Last Gleaming

Finn and Clarke make their way to camp the next morning. An escape pod from The Ark lands on an area near the Dropship. Inside the escape pod is Finn’s girlfriend, Raven. When Finn and Clarke arrive, Bellamy is nowhere to be found. It turns out he has gone to the escape pod and thrown away Raven’s radio. Finn reunites with Raven and helps the other delinquents build a rocket launcher.

S1 E6 – His Sister’s Keeper

Raven gives Finn a haircut in a tent. Bellamy rallies a group of delinquents to search for his missing sister, Octavia. One of the search party members is Finn, who follows Bellamy into Grounders’ territory. They finally find Octavia in a cave with a Grounder named Lincoln. Finn is stabbed with a poisoned blade and suffers from a high fever. Bellamy carries Finn back to camp.

S1 E7 – Contents Under Pressure

Finn is still injured with the knife still stuck in his chest. Clarke removes the knife and later applies an antidote from Lincoln. Finn is embraced by Clarke and Raven.

S1 E8 – Day Trip

Finn and Raven spend much time together in a tent as the former is still recovering from his injury. Meanwhile, many delinquents in the camp are having hallucinations because of consuming psychedelic nuts. 

S1 E9 – Unity Day

Finn sees Octavia stepping out of the camp. He follows her and realizes that she is having a relationship with Lincoln. During the encounter, Finn asks Lincoln whether the Grounders will engage in a peace talk with the delinquents. The negotiation takes place sometime later, but it all goes wrong when the two sides attack each other. Finn, Clarke, and Octavia run away.

S1 E10 – I Am Become Death

To stop the Grounders’ attack, Finn helps Raven and Jasper detonate a bomb. Raven then ends her relationship with Finn because she thinks he loves Clarke more.

S1 E11 – The Calm

Clarke, Myles, and Finn are together on a hunting trip. Some Grounders appear and shoot Myles in the leg and chest with arrows. The Grounders, led by Anya, take Clarke and Finn into their territory. Anya wants Clarke to save a Grounder named Tris, or else Finn will be killed. Clarke tries to save Tris, but she fails. The Grounders are ready to execute Finn.

S1 E12 – We Are Grounders (Part I)

Lincoln comes to the rescue. Finn is saved and reunites with Clarke. They escape through a tunnel and bump into a reaper, a Grounder who has been transformed by the Mountain Men into a savage cannibal. Finn kills the attacker. Finn tells Clarke that he loves her, but she is not ready for a relationship yet. Back at the camp, they rush to help Raven who has been shot by Murphy.

S1 E13 – We Are Grounders (Part II)

The Grounders are attacking the delinquents at the camp. Finn helps Raven recover from her injury. When Clarke arrives, Finn looks for Lincoln to see if he can help the delinquents fight against the Grounders. They plan to lure some reapers into the attacking Grounders as Raven prepares to detonate the rocket fuel from the Dropship. By the end of Season 1, Finn’s fate is unknown.

S2 E1 – The 48

A Grounder General named Tristan captures Finn. A rescue attempt by Bellamy, Monroe, and Sterling fails. However, Kane appears and kills the captor. When all five of them return to camp, Kane puts Bellamy under arrest for attacking Murphy.

S2 E2 – Inclement Weather

Raven undergoes a surgery to save her life. Finn is always at her side during the procedure. Finn frees Bellamy and together they look for the other delinquents. Murphy, Sterling, and Monroe are with them.

S2 E3 – Reapercussions

The search group can only imagine that the other delinquents are captured by the Grounders. On their way to the enemy’s territory, Finn and the others come across a group of Grounders who have been exiled by their clan. Finn shoots one grounder in the head.

S2 E4 – Many Happy Returns

Finn discovers a trail of dead bodies and follows it to find Mel. When Finn and the others try to save Mel, some Grounders attack. Octavia arrives and drives the attackers away. Finn and Murphy continue with the search mission, while the others return to camp.

S2 E5 – Human Trials

Finn and Murphy sneak into a Grounders’ camp and burn a food supply. Now that they have guns, they lead all the grounders into a pen. Murphy guards the prisoners, whereas Finn keeps on searching for the delinquents. He finds some coats of the delinquents and begins questioning the prisoners. When a Grounder tries to escape, Finn shoots and kills him. In fact, Finn ends up killing at least a dozen Grounders.

S2 E6 – Fog of War

Clarke, Bellamy, Octavia, and Murphy find it difficult to justify Finn’s action in the Grounders’ camp. During another mission to locate Mount Weather, Finn goes after Octavia and Bellamy. Raven tries to stop him to no avail. Clarke also chases after Finn, who then tries to explain that the massacre was an accident. An acidic fog appears, prompting them to hide in a bunker. Clarke says she no longer knows Finn.

S2 E7 – Long Into an Abyss

Finn arrives at the Dropship and is quickly attacked by Nyko, who calls Finn a murderer. Lexa, the Commander of Grounder Clans Coalition, says that Finn must die to pay for his crime.

S2 E8 – Spacewalker

In a flashback, it is revealed that Finn and Raven had a strong relationship with The Ark; Finn was only arrested because he took the blame for an illegal spacewalk that Raven did. Clarke, Bellamy, and even Kane try to find ways to save Finn from execution by the Grounders, but all plans are fruitless because Finn eventually turns himself in. In desperation, Clarke tries to convince Lexa to give some sort of clemency, but Lexa refuses anyway. Still, Clarke asks for a chance to say goodbye to Finn. She approaches him, gives him a kiss, and stabs him in secret as an act of mercy, saving him from being tortured to death by the Grounders.

More Appearances

After the event in Spacewalker, the series features McDonnel as Finn in two more episodes, including S2 E9 “Remember Me” as a hallucination haunting Clarke and S6 E7 “Nevermind” in a flashback.

We think Finn Collins is naturally contradictory and flawed. Finn goes from a lover to a cheater, and from a peaceful soul to a brutal murderer within a very short period. Everyone has a breaking point, unlike Clarke Griffin who has always been trying to be the hero of the greater good regardless of how dire the situation might be, which makes her the hero. On the other hand, Finn cannot hold his grudges after witnessing many other delinquents being brutally slaughtered by the Grounders and when dealing with the real possibility of losing Clarke. In S2 E5 “Spacewalker,” Finn reaches the point of no return as he kills 18 unarmed Grounders. With all his shortcomings, confusion, and moral ambiguity, Finn Collins possibly is one of the most realistic characters in the series.

Is there any off-screen reason behind Finn’s death?

In an interview with Entertainment Online, showrunner Jason Rothenberg says that Finn’s demise has long been part of the plan. The character has to die in the same episode where viewers seem to sympathize with him most. S2 E8 “Spacewalker” appears to be the right time to do it.

From the Ashes

The last episode of the previous season depicts Octavia as disappearing within the anomaly. And now to make things worse for Clarke and everybody else from the Earth group, Bellamy is also kidnapped by unknown individuals. Gabriel, Echo, and Hope decide to enter the anomaly to rescue Bellamy. Outside the anomaly, the unconscious Russell comes across the Dark Commander in the Mindspace. During the encounter, Russell is killed, which means now the Dark Commander uses Russell’s body as a host. Clarke, who is unaware of the development, burns Sanctum down to the ground.

The Garden

Octavia bonds with Diyoza and Hope on Planet Skyring. Octavia sends a message through the anomaly to her brother Bellamy, but the message is intercepted by the Disciples on Planet Bardo. The Disciples capture Octavia and Diyoza. Gabriel discovers that Skyring and Bardo are both parts of the Eligius colony mission. The Disciples, who are descendants of colonists, have now turned Bardo into a prison planet.

False Gods

As Clarke prepares to execute Russell on Sanctum, the Dark Commander takes control of the situation and stops her. Raven, Murphy, and Emori make an attempt to fix a nuclear reactor meltdown with help from some Eligius prisoners. One of the prisoners, Hatch, completes the repair, but he dies soon after due to radiation exposure.

Hesperides

The Disciples believe there will be one last war and that Clarke holds the key to victory. It comes to Raven’s mind that the anomaly is a wormhole. Protected with armor taken from the dead Disciples, she leads a team (including Clarke) into the anomaly on a rescue mission. Gaia chooses to stay behind only to get ambushed by a Disciple, who then kidnaps her and deactivates the anomaly. Raven, Clarke, and the others arrive on an ice planet, Nakara, with no clear return path.

Welcome to Bardo

On Bardo the prison planet, Octavia is getting acquainted with a Disciple scientist named Levitt. Thanks to the scientist’s help, Octavia can escape to Sanctum, but Diyoza is still imprisoned. In an attempt to rescue her mother, Hope is captured and forced to help the Disciples bring Octavia back to Bardo. Bellamy shows up to save his sister but is apparently killed in an explosion. Russell’s mind drive is surgically removed, which means the Dark Commander will never resurrect again.

Nakara

Diyoza also escapes and reunites with Octavia. Hope, Echo, and Gabriel are with them as well. Gabriel refuses to follow Levitt’s instruction to go to the surface. Instead, he surrenders to the Disciples after attacking the others. Back on Nakara, Clarke learns that the ice planet has been used as a burial ground by the Disciples. She finds an anomaly stone inside a giant creature and uses it to send the rescue team to Bardo. On Sanctum, Sheidheda—the Dark Commander—begins his effort to escape his confinement.

The Queen’s Gambit

Emori’s effort to reunite the Children of Gabriel on Sanctum doesn’t go as planned. Nelson and Nikki, along with some Eligius prisoners, sabotage the gathering. On Bardo, the Disciples are recruiting Echo and the others for the upcoming final war. Clarke, Raven, and the others arrive to reunite with Gabriel, who informs them about Bellamy’s death. The supreme leader of the Disciples is revealed to be none other than Bill Cadogan, now knows as the Shepherd.

Anaconda

A flashback to pre-apocalypse Earth reveals that the Grounder language was invented by Grace and Callie, Cadogan’s ex-wife and daughter respectively. They find refuge in the Second Dawn bunker when the disaster strikes. Cadogan discovers the anomaly stone and focuses on finding a method to open the door to other worlds. A few years later, Becca appears and uses the Flame to access the gateway to Bardo. Cadogan and Becca have their disagreement, after which Cadogan forcefully takes the Flame from her. Callie retakes the Flame and flees the bunker with the other Nightblood believers; they carry enough Nightblood for 2000 people and save them from radiation. Cadogan leads his followers to Bardo. In the present day, Cadogan has managed to brainwash Octavia, Diyoza, and Echo into the cult. He says that the Flame is the key to winning the war.

The Flock

Nikki is taking hostages and demands the surrender of Raven and Sheidheda. Murphy works together with the Dark Commander to escape through a secret tunnel. Just before Nikki begins to execute hostages, the Wonkru arrive to overpower her. The Dark Commander emerges to demonstrate his power and makes Knight his loyal second in command.

A Little Sacrifice

It turns out that Echo, Octavia, and Diyoza are only pretending to be on the Disciple’s side; they secretly plan to sabotage Cadogan’s cause. Gabriel is made aware of the source of Cadogan’s belief system about the possibility of achieving transcendence by entering a final code into the anomaly stone. According to Cadogan, a record left behind by the native inhabitants of Bardo mentions predictions of a last war. Jordan thinks the Disciples have misinterpreted the record. He believes the record is about a test—instead of war—to determine humans’ place in the universe. To participate in the test, the Disciples will need the Flame. On Sanctum, the Dark Commander establishes his position as Wonkru leader. Murphy takes the remaining survivors to safety.

Etherea

Levitt discovers from the mind of an injured Disciple that Bellamy is still alive in the anomaly. Bellamy is on Planet Etherea and is now a follower of the Disciple. He reaches an anomaly stone and emerges on Bardo. Now a member of the cult, Bellamy takes Cadogan’s side and betrays his friends. He also reveals that the Flame is no more.

The Stranger

Bellamy offers his help in restoring the Flame under the condition that Cadogan spares his friends’ lives. Clarke is furious about Bellamy’s betrayal and doesn’t want any help from him. She makes the same offer as Bellamy, and Cadogan is only happy to accept. However, Cadogan sends some of her friends to another planet to make sure Clarke doesn’t deceive him in any way. On Sanctum, Sheidheda kills the Children of Gabriel and captures Murphy, while Emori threatens to detonate the nuclear reactor. Clarke returns to Sanctum and is greeted by evidence of Sheidheda’s massacre.

Blood Giant

The Disciples fight back and wound the Dark Commander. As the Red Sun eclipse begins, Emori lowers Sanctum’s radiation shield. She kills Knight when he tries to stop her. Gabriel starts repairing the Flame using Eligius technology but soon changes his mind and destroys it for good. With the Dark Commander severely wounded and the Flame erased from existence, Clarke makes Cadogan access the anomaly to her friends. Bellamy is still adamant about standing down and ends up getting killed. Clarke travels through the anomaly with Raven, Emori, Murphy, Madi, and a few others.

A Sort of Homecoming

Clarke and the others arrive at the Second Dawn Bunker to reunite with their friends. She tells everyone how she was forced to kill Bellamy on Sanctum. They see now that Earth has somewhat recovered from the Hythylodium fuel explosion more than two centuries ago. Clarke makes the decision to settle on Earth and destroys the Disciple’s helmet. Meanwhile, on Bardo, Sheidheda collaborates with Cadogan to bring Madi back. The Dark Commander arrives at the bunker and kills Gabriel. Seeing the threats, Madi travels back to Bardo in the hope of freeing her friends from Sheidheda’s rage. And then the bunker starts crumbling.

The Dying of the Light

Cadogan makes an attempt to comb through Madi’s mind in search of the code. Levitt makes the right decision to bring back Octavia and Clarke to Bardo. The Dark Commander disappears after killing some Disciples. In the bunker, Emori gets injured as it begins to collapse. Raven and Murphy search for the anomaly stone so they may treat the injured Emori at Sanctum. Cadogan finally gets the code and leaves Madi catatonic in the process. Octavia and Levitt go after Cadogan.

The Last War

Emori finally dies, but not before Murphy inserts her Mind Drive into his own head. Cadogan begins the test and Clarke kills him before it is too late. However, Clarke herself fails the test. Raven also takes the test but the Judge—in the form of Abby Griffin—considers humanity too violent to be granted transcendence. Sheidheda is there as well and incites more violence. Octavia intercepts and prevents more deaths. Seeing Octavia’s actions, the Judge is willing to grant transcendence to all humans, except Clarke. The Judge tells Clarke she will never be able to transcend. Clarke lives her remaining days on Earth, accompanied by her most loyal friends.

Like the final season of popular TV series, some fans might be disappointed because the end is not what they expect. For a show in which plot twists are the norm, even the most loyal viewers think the conclusion is either too simplistic or overly complicated. The 100 Season 7 feels almost entirely about Clarke and how to end her long journey from the early days on Earth against the Grounders, Mountain Men, A.L.I.E., and the Eligius prisoners to Sanctum against the Primes and Children of Gabriel. Many characters die for different reasons throughout the series, leaving fewer than a handful of the original Delinquents and Grounders, combined. It seems like a good idea that the series ends where it kicked off long ago, on a recovering Earth. And there is no better person to lead a new group of survivors on the planet than Clarke Griffin herself.

Was the series cancelled?

Many TV series get cancelled by the networks due to failing ratings or that it has run for too long to the point where the story no longer offers anything refreshing for viewers. Fortunately, none of those happened to The 100. The conclusion viewers enjoyed is the end that shows creator Jason Rothenberg wants. It is how the series is supposed to end; nothing is rushed or prematurely completed. There is no unfinished business and all loose ends have been tied up.

Will there be a series spin-off?

There was once a discussion about doing a prequel, set in the 97 years before the events in The 100 start. At least on The CW part, development for the sequel has been put on an indefinite delay since 2021. It remains unclear whether showrunner Jason Rothenberg is looking for another network to keep the project alive.

Sanctum

The first episode picks up exactly where the previous season left off with Clarke and Bellamy embracing the possibility of living on a new planet. Jordan, the son of Harper and Monty (both of whom remained awake while the others went into cryogenic chambers), gives a detailed account of the Earth’s past and present condition over the last 125 years. It turns out the planet still has not fully recovered from the blast that occurred during the Damocles Event. However, Monty had discovered the location of a new inhabitable planet before he died. While it might not be entirely safe, Clarke and Bellamy take a team to explore and investigate. On Planet Alpha, they discover an abandoned compound sprinkled with A.L.I.E. shrines.

Red Sun Rising

Some sort of pollutants in the air affects everybody’s mind, triggering a sudden change of behavior. Bellamy and Murphy are fighting with each other; Murphy is knocked unconscious and displays strange symptoms of bulging black veins. Meanwhile, some children ask Clarke if she is their ride home as if they are looking for a savior. By the end of the second episode, the famously unpredictable series appears to be giving a warning to viewers about more unexpected twists and turns.

“Red Sun Rising” also reveals a bit of the history of Planet Alpha. About 236 years ago, Josephine Lightbourne and the inhabitants of Eligius III established a colony there. For unknown reasons, Russell Lightbourne committed a murder spree, killing people in the camp including his own daughter Josephine.  

The Children of Gabriel

There has been an ongoing conflict on Planet Alpha between cult-like revolutionaries called Children of Gabriel and the Founding Primes, the royal families of which Russell Lightbourne is King of Sanctum. Delilah and Rose, two of the royal bloods, are kidnapped by the cult. It turns out that all the Primes are Nightbloods, which is why Russell is surprised to know that Clarke also possesses the trait although she is not a descendant. Octavia kills some members of the Children of Gabriel, and Clarke saves Delilah. For her efforts, Russell allows the Earth group to stay in Sanctum. Diyoza is considered a terrorist and kicked out.

The Face Behind the Glass

Octavia falls into the hands of the cult and is tortured for information about Nightblood. The guards get into an argument, giving Octavia and Rose a window to escape. Diyoza saves Octavia, but Rose is killed. Cillian, a spy for the Children of Gabriel who poses as a doctor in Sanctum, puts Clarke into a state of paralysis, but then he commits suicide after getting caught in the act. Russell takes advantage of the situation and makes Clarke a host for Josephine’s consciousness, still stored in a Mind Drive. Josephine is alive in Clarke’s body.

The Gospel of Josephine

Not long after her resurrection, Josephine is tasked with finding more details about Nightbloods from the Earth group. Bellamy, Jordan, Gaia, and Murphy discover the secrets of Mind Drives and how the Primes have been using the technology to practically become immortals at the cost of other people’s lives. Bellamy is made aware of Josephine’s resurrection using Clarke’s body and is knocked out. She offers Murphy immortality in return for his cooperation. He accepts.

Memento Mori

Abby is still working on her Nightblood experiment. Josephine is only happy to support them and even tells her about the possibility of saving Kane by using the Mind Drive. Diyoza, Xavier, and Octavia take a trip to a wormhole called the Temporal Anomaly. Clarke is still alive despite the Mind Drive.

Nevermind

The only thing that saves Clarke from being wiped out of her own body is A.L.I.E., or what’s left of it in her brain. Struggling to find a way to escape the entrapment, Josephine intercepts to end Clarke’s resistance. As Clarke prepares to give up, a manifestation of Monty comes to the rescue. Bellamy has a plan to rescue his best friend, involving the Children of Gabriel.

The Old Man and the Anomaly

Kane has been resurrected in Gavin’s body. Diyoza comes to realize that Xavier is nothing but a host for Gabriel Santiago. Russell agrees to bring Clarke back and give Josephine a new host, but Josephine herself intends to sabotage her father’s decision. Bellamy asks for help from the Children of Gabriel to save Clarke, so he drags Josephine into the anomaly. Russell is enraged.

What You Take with You

In a hallucination, Octavia kills her darker “Blodreina” side as a symbol of redemption for her past psychotic behaviours as Wankro’s leader. Kane is struggling to adapt to his new body, both physically and mentally. With all the moral issues that arise from using someone else as a host for his mind, Kane commits suicide. The Children of Gabriel finally capture Bellamy and Josephine, just in time to save Clarke. Furious about the disappearance of his daughter, Russell issues the order to capture everyone from the Earth group.

Matryoshka

Gaia and Echo start a rebellion against the Primes. Although all visitors from Earth are now considered enemies of the Sanctum, Russell finds himself intrigued by Abby’s experiments with the Nightblood transplant. He is convinced Abby can help him resurrect all the dead Primes. Despite the removal of Josephine’s mind drives from Clarke’s body, Josephine remains capable of attacking her former host. In the end, however, Clarke kills Josephine and reunites with Bellamy.

Ashes to Ashes

Echo is now a Nightblood thanks to a bone marrow transplant from Madi. The episode reveals that Echo is actually Ash; they were childhood friends until Ash was forced to kill the real Echo. Clarke and the others devise a plan to simulate a Red Sun eclipse as a method to prompt the Sanctum to initiate an evacuation order. Since most of the royal families are still unaware of Josephine’s demise, Clarke can infiltrate the Sanctum without anybody being suspicious, and she sabotages the radiation shield.

Adjustment Protocol

Abby decides to transform herself into a Nightblood to help protect Madi from the Dark Commander. She gives the remaining dose of bone marrow to Russell and is made into a host for his wife, Simone Lightbourne. Gabriel intercepts Russell’s preparation to resurrect all Primes. Russell retaliates by releasing a huge amount of toxin, turning everyone against each other. Madi, Raven, and Gaia are taken hostage by the resurrected Primes, who are now retreating to the Eligius IV spaceship.

The Blood of Sanctum

Emori and Murphy remain in the Sanctum, working together to defeat the intoxicated citizens. Clarke is also now on Eligius IV to save her friends. She overpowers the hostiles, leaving Russell vulnerable. Madi regains control and uses her power to subdue Russell, now the only surviving Prime. Although Raven deletes the Flame, she figures out that the Dark Commander has already uploaded his mind to an unknown location. Suddenly, the anomaly expands to reveal the presence of Hope, the daughter of Diyoza. To everyone’s surprise, Hope stabs Octavia, who disappears as the anomaly shrinks back.

We think The 100 Season 6 is quite a crazy trip for the series, going from the usual structure with Clarke and friends versus a group of powerful enemies into a three-way battle. Clarke must lead her people while navigating a tricky situation between the Primes and the Children of Gabriel. In this case, the enemy of my enemy is not always my friend.

Before Clarke was imprisoned, she overheard a conversation between her parents about the rapidly dwindling level of oxygen available on the Ark. They estimated the supply could only sustain the population for the next six months. Jake wanted to share the information with the public, against the orders of the Chancellor. Abigail reported her husband’s intention, leading to Jake being “ejected” into outer space as a form of execution. Clarke was considered an accomplice and therefore sent to the Delinquents’ Camp.

Clarke Griffin’s Journey

Since this is about Clarke Griffin from The 100 series, rather than the novel, the easiest way to learn about her is to keep track of her journey season-by-season in the show.

Season 1

Clarke Griffin is part of the original 100 delinquents sent from the space-based colony known as the Ark. It is a colony established by the supposed only survivors of a global nuclear disaster about a century ago. For three generations, everybody on the Ark thinks of the planet as an entire nuclear exclusion zone. The descent is a form of both punishment and experiment to see whether the Earth has recovered.

As soon as the ship touches the ground, Clarke realizes it misses the actual destination: the Mount Weather facility, an old quarantine zone where she and the other 99 teenagers should be able to find supplies. Instead, they encounter an unexpected and unfriendly group of survivors, known as the Grounders. Throughout much of the first season, the delinquents—primarily led by Clarke and Bellamy—are trying to stay safe from the Grounders. Due to all the limitations, Clarke even makes herself the medic on the ground, doing what she can to take care of the sick and injured. She also has a brief romantic relationship with Finn, another delinquent. However, Clarke is forced to mercy-kill Finn after he is captured by the Grounders.

At the end of the season after a bloody battle against the Grounders, Clarke is captured by the Mountain Men, a more aggressive group of survivors operating from Mount Weather.

Season 2

The second season draws an action-packed storyline that helps establish Clarke Griffin as the delinquents’ true leader. As it turns out, the Mountain Men are still prone to die from the leftover radiation outside the Mount Weather facility. They have kidnapped many Grounders before to be used as bone marrow donors. Now, they also capture Clarke and dozens of Sky People for the same purpose. Clarke escapes the facility, works together with the Grounders’ leader, and comes back to Mount Weather to rescue everyone. She and Bellamy deliberately open a hatch at the facility to irradiate the entire bunker, killing all the Mountain Men in the process.

Season 3

With the Mountain Men no longer posing threats and the Grounders now becoming more agreeable, the delinquents have another problem in the shape of artificial intelligence called A.L.I.E. To make things worse, the A.I. is able to mind-control and turn humans against each other. Season 3 is also when Clarke develops a romantic relationship with a Grounder leader named Lexa, although it ends abruptly when Lexa dies in an unexpected tragic fashion. Her death gives Clarke access to the tool and power to defeat A.L.I.E. Before Clarke permanently shuts the A.I. down, it warns of an imminent (and apparently inevitable) nuclear disaster.

Season 4

In an attempt to save everyone from the disaster, Clarke makes herself a test subject to recreate the “Nightblood” genetic trait, which gives immunity to nuclear radiation. If successful, everybody else can follow suit. The person to oversee the test is Abby Griffin, her own mother and the former Chief Medical Officer of the Ark. Unfortunately, the Nightblood experiment still has not displayed any positive effects when the disaster finally strikes. Many people die, and some escape by flying into space. Six years after the disaster, Clarke is seen emerging from a hideout, a scene that reveals the Nightblood test has truly worked on her.

Season 5

Clarke is now accompanied by a young Nightblood girl named Madi. The two are facing a new enemy, the Eligius men, a group of prisoners who have returned to Earth from an asteroid mining colony. They plan to take over the Earth from whoever is in charge of it and have access to a weapon of planetary destruction. Clarke often finds herself juggling between dealing with the prisoners, making peace with the surviving clan, and raising Madi. When the prisoners cannot get what they want and are facing defeat in the battle against everybody else, they trigger the weapon and destroy the Earth.

It is a good thing that Clarke and the others have time to get into a spaceship and fly beyond the Earth’s atmosphere before the explosion. Clarke decides to take her place in a cryogenic chamber on the spacecraft and will remain asleep for 125 years. She and Bellamy are the first to wake up only to realize that Earth will never fully recover. Now they are heading to another inhabitable planet they might be able to call home.

Season 6

On a moon known as Sanctum, the original inhabitants (referred to as Primes) use other people’s bodies to host their minds. At the same time, a Prime member’s actual consciousness is stored securely like digital files on memory drives. Clarke falls victim to the system and is rescued by Bellamy. It is not an easy rescue effort, but eventually, Clarke survives and plays a major role to defeat the Primes.

Season 7

A faction known as the “Disciples” is behind the mysterious disappearances of Clarke’s friends, including Bellamy. Clarke is leading a search party to find and rescue them. During the mission, she learns that the leader of the Disciples is Bill Cadogan, who in the past lived on Earth. When Bellamy returns, he is no longer the man he used to be; he is now a follower of the Disciples. In a strange turn of events, Bellamy tries to kill Madi, but Clarke stops the attempt and kills him instead. In the series finale, Clarke kills Cadogan and as a result, loses her chance to Transcend—the process where someone becomes part of a hive of immortal consciousness. She returns to the scorched Earth accompanied by her most loyal friends.

Although Clarke’s journey might sound a little too generic, the character does encounter countless challenges and ordeals often to save others. From the very beginning of the series, Clarke seems to have dealt only with difficult choices. For sure she makes mistakes and takes the wrong decisions from time to time, but she never acts for the sole benefit of herself. We think that her fate, as determined in the series finale, doesn’t really do her character justice. Clarke deserves much better than having to kill Bellamy and losing Madi. It almost feels as if Clarke has to take the worst punishment for doing what is best for the people she loves and being a hero.

Is Clarke Griffin the main hero of the series?

She almost definitely is, at least by the series’ own standard. Many major characters are often led to questionable decisions and judgements. For example, Octavia forces people to engage in cannibalism and will not hesitate to kill anyone standing in her way; Bellamy even takes on a Grounders-killing rampage for all the wrong reasons. On the other hand, Clarke does almost everything she has ever done out of selflessness to ensure survival. That said, showrunner Jason Rothenberg explains that while Clarke is certainly a protagonist, she is not a hero in the conventional sense of the word.

What are some major differences between the novel and the TV series regarding Clarke Griffin?

She is a major character in both the novel and TV series, but the developments are not identical. In the novel, Clarke and Bellamy are involved in a romantic relationship; their love story affects the storyline a great deal. Season 1

When the 100 delinquents are already on Earth and fighting their way for survival, Raven is still a zero-gravity mechanic on The Ark. She was asked to repair an escape pod by Clarke’s mother, Abigail Griffin, so that she may use it to reunite with her daughter. Before the plan materializes, Abby is arrested by the Council. Abby urges Raven to use the pod herself instead. Much like her time on The Ark, Raven primarily serves as a mechanic on Earth. She also fixes a radio for the Delinquents to establish communication with The Ark. At the end of Season 1, Raven helps Clarke and Jasper trigger an explosion from the dropship.

Season 2

Before the first season ends, Raven takes a gunshot wound to the spine. The nerve damage makes her unable to use her left leg. For much of Season 2, she is still recovering from the injury. In addition to the physical ailment, Raven also has to deal with the death of Finn Collins at the hands of Clarke. Raven is tortured for information by the Grounders when they suspect her of trying to poison their Commander. During an attempt to disable the electricity at Mount Weather, she is once again captured and tortured; the Mountain Men also manage to harvest her bone marrow. At the end of the Battle of Mount Weather, Raven retreats to Camp Jaha.

Season 3

Lured by the temptation of pain-free life, Raven gets herself chipped and joins the A.L.I.E. cult. Upon realizing that the mind-altering process makes her unable to remember her dead ex-boyfriend, she rebels against the A.I. The chip implanted in her head is successfully removed, but she retains a small portion of the code in her brain. Now the code works like a computerized booster to make brain processing faster.

Season 4

The second nuclear apocalypse is coming. Raven makes her way back to Arkadia and helps build a fortification around the Alpha Station to shield the facility from radiation. Armed with the information that Nightblood is immune to radiation, Raven travels to Becca’s Island on an intel mission to learn how the mechanism works. She intends to reverse-engineer the blood and uses it for everybody. The effort is not entirely a success, but Raven survives the nuclear disaster by escaping back to the remnants of The Ark in space.

Season 5

Raven escapes to space with Bellamy, Monty, Harper, Murphy, Emori, and Echo. After about six years floating in space, they come across a space station called Eligius IV on which there is enough supply of fuel to help them return to the ground. Knowing that there are hundreds of cryogenically sleeping prisoners on the space station, Raven volunteers to stay for monitoring. She is accompanied by Murphy. The two are finally captured by another prisoner spaceship called Gargarin. All the prisoners are released and brought to Earth as well. Raven is held hostage and tortured. At the conclusion of the battle against the Eligius prisoners, Raven escapes again to space back to Eligius IV with Wonkru and Spacekru.

Season 6

Raven stays on Eligius IV while the others begin an expedition to a new habitable planet, although she eventually follows. Because Raven spends a lot of time exploring Sanctum and trying to build a new compound for everybody from Earth, she is off-screen for much of the season. As the conflict heats up between the Primes and Wonkru, she takes her place as the lead pilot to fly the transport ship back to Eligius IV. One of her most heroic accomplishments in the season is removing Sheidheda, the Dark Commander, from the Flame.

Season 7

Raven also plays a major role in stopping a nuclear meltdown in Sanctum, although the deaths of four people in the process take a toll on her, emotionally. She seems to regain her confidence back as she leads a rescue team through the Temporal Anomaly to save her missing friends. When Octavia Blake passes the ultimate test, granting humanity the chance for Transcendence, Clarke is the sole exception because she kills Bill Cadogan. Raven and the rest of Clarke’s friends decide to stay on Earth and live the remainder of their lives on the planet.

It wouldn’t be entirely inaccurate to say that Raven Reyes is almost like the “MacGyver” in The 100. She builds radios, bullets, and causes explosives, repairs a spaceship escape pod, and knows her way around a nuclear reactor. But that’s where the similarity ends. Unfortunately, Raven is not a true MacGyver in the sense that she doesn’t always escape difficult situations. She is captured and tortured for information more than once; she suffers from nerve damage injury for a time; and at many points in her life, she must lose the people she loves. She is not even a Delinquent, yet she ends up being a major figure among the actual Delinquents and chooses to stay with them for the rest of her life.

Echoes

Clarke cannot stop thinking about A.L.I.E.’s warning over an impending nuclear disaster. If there is any truth to that, humans don’t have much time to prepare everything to save the civilization – or what’s left of it. She also gives the Flame to King Roan, establishing his place as the temporary leader of all 13 clans until the next Commander comes along. Clarke, Jaha, and Bellamy discuss the next best move to stay safe from the looming radiation. Raven discovers that the warning is indeed true based on historical records.

Heavy Lies the Crown

Kane and Abby have their romantic moments; not many events of any greater importance happen in the episode with a few exceptions. One of them is that Clarke, Bellamy, Harper, and others want to bring Alpha Station back in full form, potentially giving humans a chance of survival. They obtain a hydro-generator from the Farm Station, too. Clarke tells everyone about the warning, the radiation, and the real possibility of another apocalypse.

The Four Horsemen

Jaha takes Clarke and Bellamy on a search for the Second Dawn Bunker, which can be used as a safe refuge during the apocalypse. Luna – the pacifist leader of the Boat People– arrives at Arkadia, showing signs of radiation syndrome. It turns out that Luna is the only remaining survivor of her clan, thanks to her Nightblood. Such a peculiarity is not missed by Abby, who sees an opportunity to save everyone. Meanwhile, Gaia the Flamekeeper steals the Flame.

A Lie Guarded

Abby, Rave, Luna, and Murphy discover a method to fully utilize the Nightblood to create immunity against nuclear radiation. They are attacked by drones, leading Luna to almost absolute madness. Octavia has a terrible accident on the cliff, but she miraculously survives.

The Tinder Box

Raven and Abby realize they still have some bits of A.I. knowledge left in their brains. After some relatively uneventful digging into their own minds, the two come to a conclusion that the Nightblood can be manufactured on the Ark. They soon find a rocket and prepare for a journey back to space. King Roan plans to take over the ship, but Octavia figures it out. Clarke and King Roan reach an agreement to share the already dwindling resources at Arkadia. Ilian, a previously A.L.I.E.-controlled Grounder, sabotages and detonates the ship.

We Will Rise

The people of Arkadia think Ilian’s crime is punishable by death. Octavia is willing to take the honor as the executioner, but Kane intervenes and all is well. Raven is doing what she does best to repair the spacecraft while waiting for a delivery of hydrazine fuel from Clarke, Bellamy, and Roan. One of the barrels is pierced and emptied following an ambush. When the words of a damaged fuel barrel reach Raven’s ears, she has a seizure.

Gimme Shelter

The disaster is getting terrifyingly real now that black rain is pouring down from the sky. The unlikely couple, Ilian and Octavia, are trapped in a cave and they have sex. Abby and Clarke are having a serious discussion at an underground lab on Becca’s Island about using Luna’s bone marrow in an attempt to reproduce Nightblood, which means they need a test subject. As it happens, Emori claims to have captured a thief named Baylis to be used as a lab rat. The convenience vanishes in the blink of an eye when Emori admits to lying about Baylis being a thief.

God Complex

Clarke decides to volunteer as the test subject, so she injects herself with Luna’s bone marrow. Nothing seems wrong up until this point, but the real test only happens when she is exposed to a high level of radiation. Abby destroys the radiation-emitting machine before Clarke can use it. Gaia the Flamekeeper helps Jaha discover the location of the Second Dawn Bunker, beneath the city of Polis.

DNR

News of the Second Dawn Bunker discovery spreads like wildfire, inciting restlessness among the clans. Clarke assumes leadership to prevent the bickering from escalating into a violent conflict. It makes sense because she is now a Nightblood due to the bone marrow transfusion, but then again Roan disputes the claim for the same reason. He calls for the Final Conclave to determine the true Commander. Raven cannot be bothered with all that action as she keeps herself busy repairing the spaceship.

Die All, Die Merrily

The Final Conclave officially begins. Luna takes part although she declares no one will share a place with her in the bunker if she wins. The declaration can theoretically disqualify her chance as a Commander, but no one seems to mind. It does not matter because Octavia is the last person standing at the end. She allows every clan to choose only 100 members to stay in the bunker.

The Other Side

Those who realize their slim chance of ever getting into the shelter go about committing mass suicide. Raven, confused by hallucinations, engages in a self-reboot mechanism to get rid of all of A.L.I.E.’s remaining influence in her brain.

The Chosen

Clarke shows symptoms of radiation effects, an indication that her Nightblood transfusion has no benefit. Harper and Mounty take anybody they can to the underground lab. They also have a plan to go back to the Ark.

Praimfaya

With deaths overshadowing Polis, everyone at the lab is ready to launch the spaceship. Unfortunately, Clarke has to stay behind because she needs to power up the Ark from a satellite tower. The good thing is that she arrives back at the lab just in time. Fast forward to six years later, Clarke is still alive mostly because she has truly become a Nightblood. A spaceship, more specifically a prisoner transport, lands on Earth.

We think the inevitability of the impending nuclear-related extinction event brings the show back to its true form, in which there is never an easy choice between all the bad options. Things quickly go south when everything appears to be alright, let alone in perilous circumstances. Nothing is ever truly fine in The 100 where one person’s survival is likely outweighed by somebody else’s. Sometimes, one must turn to the ultimate dark side just to stay alive.

How many of the original 100 delinquents are left by the end of Season 4?

There are at least six of the original 100 delinquents confirmed alive. Three of them are on the spaceship going to The Ark, two in the Second Dawn Bunker, and another in the Shallow Valley. However, there have been 60 confirmed deaths at this point, meaning the survival status of the other 34 remains unknown.

Did everyone outside the bunker die?

Yes, they did, except for a few who managed to find good enough shelter outside. Clarke was not in the bunker, but she ended up alive at the end of the season. That said, her Nightblood might have contributed to her survival.
