Horizon Forbidden West marks the sequel in the Horizon franchise, in which mechanical creatures roam the land. A lost civilization details the landscape our main character Aloy embarks on a journey through. The sequel at release produced a very positive reception in which DLC was a no-brainer for the Open World game. Burning Shores DLC was released 2 months after the base game’s release and has seen similar reception as its foundation. Find out what the Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores has in store for new and old gamers here!
Plot
Aloy receives a distress signal in Burning Shores from a remote coastal settlement known as Meridian Bay. Reports suggest that a mysterious force has been devastating the region. This caused intense wildfires that threaten to consume everything in their path. Aloy sets out to investigate the source of these fires and uncover the truth behind the escalating catastrophe.
As Aloy explores the Burning Shores, she encounters new tribes, both friendly and hostile. These tribes have adapted to survive in these harsh environments. She learns of a powerful faction known as the Scorched Legion, led by the Flame Prophet. The Flame Prophet and his followers believe that cleansing the land with fire is the only way to bring about a new world, free from the corruption of the machines.
As Aloy delves deeper into the mysteries of the Burning Shores, she uncovers ancient secrets and forgotten technologies that hold the key to understanding the origin of the machines and the cataclysm that reshaped the world. With the fate of humanity hanging in the balance, Aloy must confront the Flame Prophet and his followers in an epic showdown to save the Forbidden West from total annihilation.
New Additions
Locations
The new Map centres around a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles which has become a volcanic archipelago due to the hostile threats in the area. Although advertised as a concise area compared to the base map, it still provides an excellent exploration of the base game.
Weapons
The DLC provides a surprisingly large amount of new weapons to obtain. Apart from the pre-order bonus bow, all 10 new weapons are obtainable across ruined LA. Although most of the weapons are variants of previous weapons Aloy could use, weapons like Toy Bow create successful variations in styles and designs.
There is one new weapon called the Specter Gauntlet which deals explosive and tear damage in a small area. It also provides a railgun mode for various playstyles.
